Danny's Tram Stop Photos: Essen

A "U-stadtbahn" sign at Rüttenscheider Stern stationEssen in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, has a large tram network including both "stadtbahn" (a tramline that runs through sections designed for future conversion to full metro) and regular tram lines with both running underground in the city centre.

Two lines run to the centre of neighbouring cities which have their own tram networks: a stadtbahn line runs to Mülheim an der Ruhr, and a regular tram line runs to Gelsenkirchen. Another stadtbahn line connects with one of Gelsenkirchen's tram lines in the outskirts of the latter too, and one of Mülheim's tram lines connects with one of Essen's in the outskirts of the latter.

For more information and history, see Wikipedia (stadtbahn, other trams) and UrbanRail.net. For service and fare information, see the operator's website (German only except journey planner).

My photos come from a short stay in August 2018.

Alphabetical Stop List

Here's an alphabetical list of all the stops that I've got photos of:

One of Essen's stadtbahn lines serves a couple of stations I have photos of in Mülheim an der Ruhr: Mülheim an der Ruhr Hauptbahnhof and Rhein-Ruhr-Zentrum.

Another of Essen's stadtbahn lines serves a stop I have photos of in Gelsenkirchen: Buerer Straße. One of Essen's tram lines also serves a couple of stations I have photos of in Gelsenkirchen: Gelsenkirchen Hauptbahnhof and Heinrich-König-Platz.
